Adult ballet is where Freda Silk began and it remains at the heart of the brand.

​While I now make skirts for professional dancers around the world, there is something especially joyful about creating for adult dancers and it's deeply personal. I am one myself, and I understand exactly what it means to return to ballet later in life, or to discover it for the first time as an adult.​

Too often, adult dancers are frustrated by skirts that don’t fit properly or flatter their bodies. At Freda Silk, you’ll find a wide range of handmade ballet skirts designed with adult dancers in mind: beautiful shapes, thoughtful sizing and pieces that help you feel confident, comfortable, and completely yourself when you dance.

​Ballet teachers are also valued customers, often choosing the longer-length, opaque chiffon wrap skirts - practical, elegant and perfect for teaching.​

Not every adult dancer wants the traditional ballet uniform of tights and leotard. From experience, adding a chiffon wrap skirt or a little SAB skirt over leggings instantly helps you feel the part. You might not jump any higher, but you’ll feel like you are. Your pirouette may wobble, but you can finish it with a flourish. Stepping out of a balance feels better with the brush of a skirt.

Keeping warm matters too, especially for joints that deserve a little extra kindness. You’ll find leg warmers in a range of colours and sizes, designed to move with you.  And if you’re navigating that hot-and-bothered stage of life (you know what I mean, ladies), you can style it out with a specially made Sweat and Tears towel.​​
